Verkocht door: Rob de Boer. Omschrijving: A bit of a strange story, this lamp. Strange in the sense that I have never seen it before, and that I can't find any other examples online. The only evidence I have found to link this design to Fase Madrid, is the fact that it is featured in the book that has been published about FASE. Pretty strong evidence though, meaning I just had to have these lamps. Yes, there are two.
This is space-age design at its finest. A large, round lamp of shiny chrome shade with a trumpet-shaped base and a delicate glass diffuser to disperse the light downwards. The lamp measures 46 centimeters tall (approx 18"). Inside the lamp shade is room for two regular E27 light bulbs. Recommended is to use 40W max or preferably LED to prevent build-up of heat.
CONDITION:
I have two of these lamps available. Both are in good condition, with some minor traces of use. This particular lamp has some cracks in the plastic underneath the base, while the chrome has lost some of its lustre over the years. But still a great lamp. I have more pictures available off both lamps, please send a message and I will send them happily.
ABOUT THE MAKER
Before closing shop, Fase sold manufacturing licenses to companies like Ma-OF (German) and GEI ((Gabinete Estudios Industriales). The story goes that Grin Luz was a company that offered chroming as a service, and that Grin Luz also did the odd job for the FASE factory. This explains why some of the parts are similar to the lamps of FASE, like the diffuser and some parts that hold the diffuser and lamp shade.
Much has been said about the lamps of Spanish manufacturer Fase. And rightfully so, because these lamps are truly spectacular. While making such fabulous lamps, Fase thought it would be a good idea to shift focus towards halogen lighting in the 80's. A move which proved to be the beginning of the end, for Fase filed for bankruptcy shortly thereafter. Fase lamps are rare and are becoming increasingly sought after. You can see them in many Hollywood films and TV-productions. Fase Madrid lamps are valued by collectors because of their contemporary design. In a 100 years, these lamps will still look modern in every household.
